A newcomer to the 100 Mile House area wants to start a “friendship day.”It is an event Cindy-Lue Trudeau has been involved in since early 1990 when a flower shop gave away flowers every year on Sept. 10. “Everybody who came into their shop was given a dozen roses on the condition they give one rose randomly to 12 different people. It’s amazing how this type of gesture can really affect people in a positive way.”
Trudeau moved from Abbotsford 16 months ago, and says she has met so many nice people and feels right at home. She wants to share this concept and hopes it becomes an annual event throughout the South Cariboo.
The idea of honouring friendship and friends began in 1935 in the United States. As the popularity and the true reason behind the celebration spread, friendship day became an international observation, as more countries started observing this day.
On Oct. 7, Trudeau asks people to get a dozen of something, flowers, homemade cookies, or anything that is affordable and pass one to 12 individuals they meet that day, friend or stranger.
“This is the best way to ‘pay it forward’ and let people know they are worth it, and that people do care.”
