The suspected hit and run driver that struck Carrie Holmes, 22, as she walked along Bell Road on Labor Day surrendered Tuesday afternoon at the Criminal Justice Center. Jason Guy, 35, is who Fatal Crash investigators believe was behind the wheel of a Nissan pickup that struck Holmes near her apartment complex in the 3500 block of Bell Road at 7:45 p.m.
Guy faces a multi-count grand jury indictment - vehicular homicide by intoxication, vehicular homicide by recklessness, and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Holmes was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died on Sept. 11.
Immediately after the crash, the passenger in the hit and run pickup truck returned to the scene and reported that he told Guy to stop but that Guy refused. The passenger also told investigators he and Guy had both been drinking prior to the crash.
Guy contacted police the morning after the hit and run crash because he said he heard news reports that a woman had been struck in the area where he had been driving.
Fatal Crash officers are also investigating whether Guy was text messaging at the time of the collision. Guy, of Demonbreun Street, was convicted of DUI in 2001, police said.
