Like other parts of the country, residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are making preparations to celebrate the 64th Independence Day with full zeal and fervour today (Sunday). The government departments including educational institutions would arrange different colourful programmes while most of the government and private buildings would be illuminated and national flag would be hoisted.
The city district government has also arranged a flag hoisting ceremony. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Capt (r) Zahid Saeed and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar along with school children would hoist national flag at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. Children of different schools and civil society members would participate in function. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Captain (r) Zahid Saeed said that people should keep an eye on suspected persons directing the law enforcement agencies to avoid any untoward incident on the occasion, he said.
Educational institutions would arrange colourful programmes followed by 14th August. They would arrange national anthem, national songs, speeches and dramas while cinemas would arrange big screens to telecast dramas and films free of cost. Some NGOs have also arranged programmes while people would arrange motorcycle and car rallies.
Musical programmes have been arranged at Chattar Park and Lake View Park. Executive District Officer (EDO) Education Qazi Zahoor-ul-Haq said that he has directed all the heads of schools to arrange colourful events. “I will visit schools to enjoy children’s programmes,”0 he said.
