World Juniors Day 1

Posted in : Juniors Day

(added last year!)

I have been scouring the net to find a highlight of this, so far unsuccessfully. I did find his postgame interview, however. For the game Nino had a goal and an assist, as Switzerland went up 4-0 and held on to beat Germany 4-3. As you could see from the video, Nino has been named the captain of the Swiss team.

Sven Bartschi did not record a point in the game. On the lineup sheet provided by the IIHF Nino is listed on the top line and Bartschi on the second line. However, Bartschi was on the ice for both of Nino's points (Bartschi is wearing number 15, Nino number 22), both on power plays, so they appear to be playing together on the power play. Bartschi was -1 for the game--on the ice for two power play goals, on the ice for one goal allowed while killing a penalty, and one goal allowed at even strength. Nino had an even plus-minus, on the ice for only the two power play goals.

No shortage of highlights in this one. Johansen's goal is about two minutes into the clip. It was the game winner, as it turned out; Canada got two more to salt the game away, 6-3 over Russia. Johansen actually could have scored two or three (or more) goals; he missed the net on a couple and was the victim of a great save by the Russian goalie. He played well with Zach Kassian, and with Canada's power play being a question mark coming in, he played on the top power play unit, and they played really well. He was -2 but was in on two power play goals. Canada started pretty shaky but were pretty much in control the second half of the game.
