Afsti celebrates World Food Day

To celebrate World Food Day on October 16, the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists of India (Afsti), Mumbai Chapter had organised a seminar containing two technical lectures – Dr KU Naram lecture and Prof A Sreenivasan endowment lecture along with an award function. The theme of the seminar was “Food Security: United against Hunger.”

The programme started with Dr KU Naram lecture on “Indian food industry scenario and way forward” by Harish Bijoor, CEO – Harish Bijoor Consults Inc. Prof. A Sreenivasan endowment lecture was on Food Security: using native micro-organisms in the production of safe and secure food by Dr Prathap Kumar Shetty, reader and head (IC), department of food science and technology at Pondicherry University and Dr Sudhakar Mhaskar, EVP of Marico.

Addressing the participants, Prabodh Halde, secretary of Afsti, Mumbai chapter, highlighted the importance of world food day. Further, Bijoor spoke about the Indian food industry scenario and trends in food industry. Dr Shetty also talked on different useful microbes and how they can be used for mankind, particularly saving wastage of food. Over 150 food scientists and technologists attended the function.
